Mavic has served up its latest Allroad S carbon wheelset, “hoops of plenty” that will surely delight gravelers and bikepackers alike thanks to their wide 25mm internal width that accommodate tires ranging from 30mm up to a hefty 64mmm, while the 42mm rim profile ticks the aerodynamics box as well.
Elsewhere, the Allroad S is treated to Mavic’s Instant Drive 360 hubs with sealed cartridge bearings that feature a 40-tooth ratchet and 9° of engagement that spin on 24 J-Bend, stainless steel spokes.
The new wheelset also utilizes the French brand’s FORE process, a hooked rim construction method where the lower rim bridge is pushed inward, and the material is then threaded to accept the spoke nipple, creating a spoke hole that is not drilled through the entire rim bed, leading to stronger rim that eliminates the need for rim tape and makes it more resistant to fatigue and lighter by removing unnecessary material.
Weighing in at 1695 grams, the Allroad S won’t win any plaudits from the weight weenies faction, but at $1,369.00, the price surely will.
