Mavic has spun up its latest wheelset dubbed the Cosmic S Carbon 42, offering enthusiasts a set of full-carbon hoops that comes in at a paltry $999.
Interestingly though, the new tubless-ready Cosmic S Carbon 42 breaks with the current trend of going wider, featuring a modest 21 mm rim width that limits one’s choice of rubber, while things spin on the French brand’s QRM ID360 hubs and bladed J-bend spokes to bolster the wheelset’s aero credentials.
Weighing in at 1595 grams, the Cosmic S Carbon 42 won’t win any plaudits from the weight weenies, but the wheels still come within grams of Zipp’s 303S wheelset, earning them top consideration in the all-rounder category.
The new Cosmic S Carbon 42 Wheelset is compatible with Shimano and Sram free hub bodies, with the option of converting to Campagnolo ED11, N3W and XD-R hubs.
In addition, the front and rear thru-axles are easily convertible to quick-release with adapters included.
