Mavic has spun up its latest wheelset dubbed the Cosmic 45 SLR, which now features a wider internal width of 23mm, while the overall width has been increased to 32mm, allowing for tires that range from 28mm to 32mm.
Elsewhere, the Cosmic 45 SLR is treated to ceramic bearings that spin via Mavic’s AERO straight pull stainless steel spokes and Instant Drive 360 hubs. However, unlike other rims where the spoke holes are drilled, the new wheels feature the French brand’s FORE Carbon process, whereby the spoke fitting are fabricated into the rim during the layup process, resulting in both an increase in strength and a reduction in weight by some 70 grams.
Aerodynamics also played an important role when developing the Cosmic 45 SLR, which underwent countless hours of wind tunnel testing to create the optimal NACA rim profile.
All in, Mavic says the new Cosmic 45 SLR tips the scales at a respectable 1480 grams, which sells for $2,700.
