Oakley unveiled its latest Meta Vanguard smart glasses at this week’s Meta Connect event, which unlike the previous Oakley Meta HSTN, now feature a large unified front lens instead of two cameras positioned at the top corners of the frame, allowing wearers to capture video in up to 3K resolution thanks the 12-megapixel camera with a 122-degree wide-angle lens.
The Meta Vanguard also features a programmable button that can trigger a custom AI prompt, which wearers can set up using the Meta AI app. Oakley also notes that all of the buttons on the Meta Vanguard are located underneath the frame, allowing cyclists to wear helmets while using them.
Additionally, the Meta Vanguard has up to nine hours of battery life, or up to six hours of continuous music playback, along with a charging case that can provide an additional 36 hours of charge on the go. Moreover, wearers can quickly charge the glasses to 50% in 20 minutes via the charging case
Elsewhere, the open-ear speaker are now six decibels louder than the out-going Oakley Meta HSTN, making them the most powerful speakers of any smart glasses to date. In addition, they also feature a five-microphone array that’s optimized to reduce wind noise while on calls, messaging, or using Meta AI with via voice control.
The Meta Vanguard also has an IP67 dust and water resistance rating for use during intense workouts, the highest of any smart glasses, while the wraparound design features Oakley PRIZMTM Lens technology that effectively blocks out the sun, wind and dust.
Lastly, the smart glasses can be integrated with Garmin smartwatches, providing important ride data such as heart rate, as well as the ability to integrate with Strava, giving cyclists the opportunity to overlay their performance metrics onto videos, as well as capture photos, and share them directly to their Strava community.
The Meta Vanguard is available in four frame and lens colors, Oakley Meta Vanguard Black with PRIZMTM 24K, Oakley Meta Vanguard White with PRIZMTM Black, Oakley Meta Vanguard Black with PRIZMTM Road, and Oakley Meta Vanguard White with PRIZMTM Sapphire, which sell for a hefty $799.99.
