Orbea is targeting the urban cyclist with the launch of its new Diem, offering riders the perfect solution to traverse the cityscape thanks to electric assistance, integrated lighting and plenty of cargo carrying options in a lightweight hydroformed aluminum frame that features Orbea’s own “diamond glide” technology that’s designed to balance vertical compliance and stability.
At the heart of the Diem, is a mid-mounted Shimano EP6 motor and 9-speed Cues drivetrain, along with the option of either a 630Wh or 540Wh battery, lowering the bike’s center of gravity to further bolster stability.
According to Orbea, the 630Wh battery can provide up to 93 miles (150km) of travel on a single charge, while the 540Wh battery is good for up to 75 miles (120km). If that’s not far enough, one can opt for an additional 252Wh range extender battery.
Elsewhere, the Diem gets integrated front and rear lights, which feature automatic sensors that turn them on when it gets dark, as well as the choice of 44 (20kg) or 66 (30kg) pound capacity racks that are compatible with Ortlieb and MIK systems, along with an optional 22 pound (10kg) front rack and basket. Also, optional adaptors make the Diem friendly with Thule, Burley, Croozer and Hamax trailers.
Additionally, the Diem features a one-piece stem and handlebar that’s designed to make mounting a mobile phone secure and easy courtesy of an integrated SP Connect system, while a toptube-mounted outlet offers a USB-C connection for charging one’s mobile phone.
Orbea offers the Diem in a wide range of frame sizes from small to extra large with an online configurator that allows buyers to customize the bike to their needs.
Offered in three guises, here’s how the Diem models breakdown:
