Ponomarets is claiming its new Eidolon is the world’s lightest eBike, featuring a svelte carbon frameset and drive-system that brings the cruiser’s weight down to sub-10-kilos – 21.8 pounds to be exact.
Ponomarets was founded in 2022 by Ludwig Eickemeyer and Roman Ponomarets as a boutique eBike brand aiming to “harmonize engineering with timeless design”, debuting its first model called the Series 1 back in 2022 that rolled on a carbon frame with a Mahle X35+ motor, a combination that tipped the scales at just over 11 kg (25 lb).
“Our vision with Eidolon was to create more than an eBike – it’s a piece of moving art,” said company co-founder Roman Ponomarets. “Every element, from its featherweight frame to its bespoke braking system, speaks to our relentless pursuit of perfection.”
“In designing Eidolon, we honored tradition while pushing the boundaries of engineering,” added Ludwig Eickemeyer. “It is the epitome of elegance and performance.”
The Eidolon gets its gravity-defying weight courtesy of a handmade carbon fiber monocoque frame by the All Ahead Composites facility in Veitshöchheim, Germany, while the bike’s silhouette is further refined in collaboration with the Belgium design house VoyagerCo.
The Eidolon is propelled by a 250-W Mahle X20 rear hub motor, which itself weighs in at just 3 kg (6.6 lb), providing adaptive assistance up to 25 km/h (15.5 mph), while producing 55 Nm (40.5 lb.ft) of torque. In addition, the motor features a 100km (62-mile) non-removable Mahle 236Wh battery.
The Eidolon is available in two drivetrain configurations – the 12-speed Italian-engineered Ingrid RD1 or the 12-speed SRAM Red system with wireless shifting and carbon fiber rims shod with 700x36c road tires, along with a flat carbon handlebar and a CNC-machined stem and other components.
Elsewhere, stopping power is provided by its own dual-piston braking system “crafted from high-grade aluminum”, that was also designed in partnership with VoyagerCo and Switzerland’s 612 Parts, featuring Trickstuff pads and Goodridge hoses for “exceptional control, responsiveness and reliability.”
Rounding out the Eidolon are integrated Supernova lights, optional fenders, a Fizik saddle and Acros Urban pedals.
What one?
Buyers better be prepared to lay down some serious euros, as the Eidolon fetches a hefty starting price of €12,600 (roughly $13,600).
