Rapha and artist Geoff McFetridge have teamed up to create a special edition kit that regals the cycling culture akin to the British brand’s Rapha Cycling Club chapter in Los Angeles.
“Designing a cycling kit is like sculpture,” McFetridge said. “A painting is simple, you just draw it or sketch it and it changes from something simple to something complicated. Something rough to something finished. Whereas a cycling kit is a dimensional thing. There’s a reason fashion designers work with a 3D form. The ideal way to make a cycling kit would be to sketch in 3D.”
“The signature stripes of the Rapha Cycling Club are recognizable around the world but for our latest member-only collection, we asked LA-based artist and RCC member, Geoff McFetridge to show us his spin on the kit. This special edition version of our Pro Team Midweight Jersey is what he came up with. Made of a 155gsm fabric, the jersey is ideally suited to riding in mild to warm weather, with laser-cut perforations under the arms for added ventilation on warmer days. Our Pro Team fit ensures the fabric sits comfortably next to the skin, wicking sweat away to regulate temperature without any excess fabric to flap in the wind. Three expandable pockets provide ample space for supplies and are lined with mesh to promote airflow. There’s a zipped essentials pocket for valuables while the full-length, easy-glide zip can be adjusted with one hand to help you stay cool while climbing. The rear panels provide UPF50 sun protection while the jersey’s antibacterial finish keeps you fresher for longer,” says Rapha.
“At the heart of our peloton-proven bibs sits a dual-density chamois pad which, for an improved fit, comes in one of three sizes depending on the size of the bib short. The upper section of the bibs features Geoff’s striking design and is made with a lightweight, open-structured fabric for excellent breathability beneath a jersey. The straps’ bonded edges reduce irritation while an high-stretch section over the shoulder creates a secure fit. The shorts themselves are made with a high-quality Lycra fabric with excellent four-way stretch that helps hold the pad in place. Aiding stability further, the low-profile silicone leg grippers disperse pressure evenly over the thigh and also feature the limited edition design to match the collection’s jersey, cap and socks,” adds Rapha.
The collection includes the men’s and women’s Midnight Jersey ($150), men’s Pro Team Bib Shorts II ($270), men’s Pro Team Lightweight Gilet ($125), men’s Pro Team Sleeveless Base Layer ($65), a cap ($30), a musette ($20), and socks ($20).
