The original founders of ROTOR, Pablo Carrasco and Ignacio Estellés, debuted their new brand of cranksets dubbed QO at this month’s Velofollies in Belgium, showcasing state-of-the-art carbon fiber cranks that feature DUB-compatible 28.99mm spindles and a direct mount chainring interface, along with dimpled surface technology that’s designed to improve airflow.
“We are thrilled to launch QO with this state-of-the-art carbon crank as our debut product, and they are just the beginning,” said Carrasco. Estelles added, “Our mission is to push the limits of performance, and to give form to ideas we have been wanting to develop for years. The QO brand is focused on delivering real-world benefits to professional riders and passionate cyclists alike.”
The QO brand comes from the Latin phrase “Quo Vadis,” which means “Where are you going?”
The first three models comprise the Race, ROCKS (MTB) and Grava (gravel), with more product launches in the pipeline for 2025.
While the Race and Grava feature QO’s dimpled surface technology, both the ROCKS and Grava have a Kevlar armor layer to help to protect the crankarms from damaging impacts, as well as a treatment of Mitsubishi Pyrofil carbon for vibration damping. However, instead of dimples, the ROCKS has external ribs called “MaxStrength Slots” that are designed to bolster stiffness.
The Race is available in 50/34T, 52/36T and 54/40T configurations, along with crankarms in lengths of 160, 165, 170, 172.5 and 175mm in both white or black, while the ROCKS and Grava span lengths of 165, 170 and 175mm with 32, 34, 36 and 38T chainring sizes.
Pricing has yet to be announced (expect complete cranks to fall between $700 to $750), with availability slated for March via multiple European distributors, as well consumer direct through QO.
