ROTOR’s new INspider ROAD power meter not only reduces weight by a claimed 21 grams, but offers more compatibility for a wider range of frames thanks to a revamped design that’s now 12mm thinner, while battery life is said to be increased as well.
Additionally, the new INspider ROAD is also compatible with more bottom bracket standards, including BB386 and T47 standards, while it retains compatibility with both 24mm and 30mm axles.
As with all of ROTOR’s spider-based power meters, the INspider ROAD captures power data from both legs at a rate of 120Hz with a claimed accuracy of +/- 1.5% Also, the power meter continues to use a 4×110 bolt circle diameter, making it compatible with a wide range of first- and third-party chainrings.
However, unlike the Spanish brand’s 2INpower SL crankset, which combines two separate power meters to measure the effort produced by each leg independently, the INspider ROAD can only estimate left/right power balance.
Elsewhere, the INspider ROAD is powered by an internal, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which Rotor claims will last for up to 350 hours of riding time – a significant increase compared to the 200 hours the previous version, while data is transmitted via ANT+ or Bluetooth protocols. Moreover, the power meter can map advanced performance metrics such as pedaling dynamics. Also, for riders who want to use ROTOR’s Q Ring oval chainrings, the company’s Power app can be used to determine the optimal position based on pedaling style.
It’s also worth noting, that ROTOR has increased the waterproof rating of the INspider Road to an IP67 standard.
The ROTOR INspider ROAD power meter sells for $670.88.
