Roval has spun up its third generation Alpinist wheelset aptly dubbed the Alpinist CLX III, boasting thermoplastic spokes that result in a claimed weight of just 1,131 grams with all of the gubbins.
Not surprisingly, most of the weight savings comes from the Arris Composites spokes, which first debuted on the brand’s Rapide CLX III and Rapide Sprint CLX wheelsets, resulting in a 20% increase in strength as well.
Similar to the its Rapide CLX III counterpart, the new Alpinist CLX III features the same titanium heads and nipples, while things spin on Roval’s Low Flange road hubs with DT Swiss 180 internals and SINC ceramic bearings.
Elsewhere, Roval decided to stick with the same 33mm depth, 27mm external width and 21mm internal width. However, small changes were made to the rim bed in order to make the wheels ETRTO compliant, as well as a hooked bead design to improve tubeless safety.
The Alpinist CLX III wheelset sells for $1,399.99, which comes with a life-time warranty.
Alongside the new hoops, Roval has also announced the launch of its latest Alpinist II one-piece handlebar and stem, featuring revised cable routing that allows the brake hoses to exit underneath stem, while the tops have been ovalized in order to increase the surface area by 12%.
Additionally, the drops were treated to 4º flare to further improve ergonomics.
All said, Roval claims the new bar tips the scales at a feathery 270g, which is available across 15 different size confirmations for $699.99.
