Scott has launched the third generation of its Foil RC road bike, boasting lighter weight, improved aerodynamics and greater comfort over its predecessor, resulting in what Scott claims is a 1:18 time savings when riding at 40kph for 40 kilometers.
Scott says it set-out to make the new Foil RC faster and more comfortable by revisiting the bike’s aerodynamic signature.
With the loosening of restrictions by cycling’s governing body, the Union Cycliste Internationale, Scott says it was able to revamp the Foil RC’s tube shapes and profiles to now incorporate “triangles” at various junctures of the main triangle, something that was previously only allowed with time trial bikes.
In addition to the main frame, Scott also decided to position the dropped seatstays at 10º inward, a small detail Scott says “provides significant gains as the bike moves forwards.”
Additionally, the brake calipers are now hidden by the seatstays for a further reduction in drag, while the seattube wraps around the wheel in order to accommodate tires up to 30mm.
Scott also designed a new seatpost called the Duncan, which features a D-shape profile with a rear-facing, rubber fairing that can be removed to make way for a re-chargeable light.
Not surprisingly, further aerodynamic gains were realized by using Scott’s Creston IC SL Aero one-piece cockpit on the flagship model, while a raw carbon finish brings the weight down to 915 grams for the top-tier version.
The new Foil RC is offered in four variants, the RC Ultimate, RC Pro, RC 10 and RC 20.
