SRAM has lifted the curtains on its new Red XPLR AXS groupset, joining Campagnolo and ROTOR in the race for more gears by adding 13 speeds to its gravel-specific drivetrain.
In addition to an extra gear, perhaps the next most important feature is the introduction of a direct-mount derailleur, allowing it to attach to any UDH-equipped bike, resulting in not only ease of set-up but better chain management thanks to its MTB-inspired clutch and Magic Pulley Wheel.
Additionally, the new 13-speed Red XPLR XG-1391 cassette offers a 460% range across its 10-46t cluster, while the crankset claims to be SRAM’s lightest and stiffest to date courtesy of hollow carbon arms. However, it’s only compatible with the company’s DUB bottom bracket standard. Sorry, weight weenies.
Elsewhere, the new groupset is treated to a power meter option, offering dual-sided performance that promises +/-1.5 % accuracy, along with a IPX7 waterproofing standard.
The new Red XPLR AXS AXS will set you back $3,529, or $3,979 with the power meter option. Here’s how the individual components breakdown:
