As the mercury continues to plummet, cyclists everywhere have begun retreating to the indoors, leaving only the most diehard of riders willing to brave the elements. Castelli has answered their call with the launch of its latest Polare 4 bibtights, touting them as “the next generation bibtights that usher in a new era for cold weather comfort and performance”, relying on AirCore front panels and Thermoflex fleece backing along the legs and seat that can thwart the cold to temperatures that dip as low as 23° F.
“For serious winter cyclists, the difference between a good ride and a miserable one often comes down to the quality of their clothing. With Polartec AirCore, we’ve been able to re-write what high-performance cycling garments can do in cold weather by providing a windproof front that doesn’t sacrifice breathability or stretch,” said Steve Smith, Castelli’s Global Brand Manager. “By pairing that pioneering fabric with Thermoflex fleece in our Polare 4 bibtights, we’ve created the perfect blend of warmth, stretch, and breathability to make your very cold rides as comfortable as possible.”
According to Castelli, the Polartec AirCore fabric is made from recycled Polyester yarns that are 100% PFAS-free, featuring a tight membrane that prevents air from passing through, at the same time provides ideal breathability.
“The advanced material offers an extremely tight membrane that shuts out the elements while still allowing air to permeate it. Getting wet from the inside through sweat is as big of a problem for cyclists as getting soaked from rain, sleet, or snow,” explains Smith.
Elsewhere, the Polare 4 features Castelli’s multi-density KISS Air2 pad for optimal comfort and protection against chafing and abrasion, while reflective stripes along the calves and knees provide enhanced visibility.
Castelli was also keen to add ankle zippers in order to make getting in and out of the bibtights easier.
The Polare 4 bibtights come in black, with sizes that span XS to 3XL for men, and XS to XL for women (oddly called the Polare 2) that sell for $250.
