TIME has finally lifted the curtains on its latest generation SCYLON aero bike, treating it to a new silhouette that’s been aerodynamically optimized to cheat the wind, along with full cable integration and enough clearance for tires up to a hefty 32mm.
Launched more than a decade ago, the SCYLON has undergone only a few changes over the years, namely the adoption of disc brakes and the elimination of an integrated seatmast and TIME’s AKTIV fork, which featured an internal damper to reduce vibration.
However, TIME is using the word “reborn” to describe the ground-up approach that was taken to develop the new SCYLON, relying on extensive aerodynamic testing and cutting-edge CFD analysis to perfect its shape, resulting in a 12% improvement in the frame’s aerodynamic signature, while shedding as much as 100 grams via TIME’s exclusive Braided Carbon Structure (BCS) technology.
Additionally, the French brand now turned American, also developed a new fork for the SCYLON, which incorporates two different offsets in order to create consistent handling and ride quality across all sizes, while the seatpost gets a newly patented rail clamping system that easily adjusts for both -20mm and +10mm offsets, allowing for a massive range of fore-aft adjustability, along compatibility with 7mm round and 7x9mm oval seat rails.
Elsewhere, the SCYLON features a new one-piece chainstay design that TIME calls its Powerbox system, which utilizes ultra-high modulus fibers that not only bolsters strength but also reduces weight by as much as 20%.
Of course, nothing would be complete unless TIME dialed in the styling quotient for the SCYLON as well, imbuing its Braided Carbon Structure with natural highlights, or a Pearl effect finish that creates an iridescent sheen.
The SCYLON is available as a frameset only for $4,999.00, or as a fuselage with Vision’s Metron 5D EVO one-piece handlebar for $5,499.00.
TIME says it also plans to offer complete builds that span groupsets from Shimano, SRAM and possibly Campagnolo, along with wheelsets from premium brands as well.
