Filippo Gana stormed to victory in the opening time trial of the Tirreno-Adriatico today, beating Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) in Lido di Camaiore, while Johan Price-Pejtersen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) rounded out the podium after the Danish rider sat in the hot seat for most of the day.
Behind the podium trio, Antonio Tiberi would prove the strongest of the GC contenders outside of Ayuso, as the Bahrain Victorious racer would be just one of 11 riders to go under the 13-minute mark, setting a time of 12:46 at the finish.
In the meantime, Derek Gee (Israel-Premier Tech) and Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) set an impressive times at 12:51 12:55, respectively, while other big GC comtenders like Simon Yates (Visma-Lease A Bike), Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), Jai Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), and Mikel Landa (Soudal-QuickStep) finished outside of the 13:10 mark.
Earlier, Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) came the closest to nixing Price-Pejtersen, but the Italian rider faded on the run to the finish, ending up with a time of 12:48 to just miss out on the top spot.
