Maurits Lammertink (Roompot) claimed the 4th and final stage of this year’s Tour du Limousin, in an uphill, sprint finish – ahead of Sonny Colbrelli (Bardiani) and Thomas Sprengers (Topsport Vlaanderen – Baloise).
Yet, despite finishing in second place, it was enough for Colbrelli to win the overall title.
Race Highlights
Today’s final stage featured a 164.7 kilometer route from Aixe-sur-Vienne to Limoges, which included three category 3 climbs – followed by three laps of a hilly 12 kilometer finishing that concluded with an uphill finish.
A series of breakaway attempts punctuated most of today’s race, however, none of them were able to gain much of an advantage over the peloton.
Intermediate sprints also came and went as usual, with most of the the top GC contenders staying in the mix.
Ultimately however, the race boiled down to a bunch sprint, where Colbrelli managed to eke out enough of a margin, combined with bonus sprint points, to narrowly beat-out Jose Herrada (Movistar) for the overall victory.
