All that glitters isn’t gold, but try telling Tune that, now that the German brand has partnered with the Tekkerz racing team on a series of limited-edition gold wheelsets.
“Working with Tekkerz is the perfect match – they bring the energy, we bring the precision and decades of experience. The Nano wheelset is built to go fast and stand out, and this custom edition really captures that spirit,” says Julian Schaible, Brand Manager at Tune.
“Tekkerz was set up to offer cycling something different from the mainstream,” says Briggs. “We’re always looking to push the limits – in racing and in style. Gold wheels make up some of the greatest motor racing liveries that have influenced me since I was a kid, so I wanted to offer that look to cycling. It’s just as important for the wheels to be at the top end of performance as well as looking good. Since working with Tune, I have no doubts we’ve built a truly limited wheel,” adds Tekkerz team manager Alec Briggs.
At the center of the limited edition wheelset are Tune’s 50mm TRC50 carbon rims that spin on the boutique brand’s latest Nano hubs, which feature an all-new free-hub system that offers 69 points of engagement, along with the option of adding three more pawls, bringing the engagement up to 138 points, while things spin on straight-pull Sapim CX-Ray spokes and Enduro bearings.
Additionally, the wheelset is treated to increased the weather sealing, as well as an axle design with automatic axial play adjustment that eliminates the need for shims.
Limited to just 100 wheelsets, Tunes says the hoops of gold tip the scales at 1,389 grams, which sell for €2,495.
Oh, it’s too bad Liberace wasn’t still in the here and now, as the maestro would have loved a set.
