Vanpowers Unveils New E-Gravel Bike

Vanpowers has unveiled its newest e-gravel bike called the UrbanCross at this year’s Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, which features the latest in smart e-bike technology alongside a new state-of-the-art security system that’s designed to provide owners with unparalleled protection against theft.

“We’re excited to reveal our newest innovation, the UrbanCross, at CES 2024,” announced Darik Duan, Head of Research and Development at Vanpowers. “This addition not only broadens our intelligent e-bike lineup but also motivates us to continue to push the boundaries of smart e-bike technology to enhance rider safety and security.”

The introduction of the UrbanCross signifies a significant milestone for Vanpowers, showcasing its advancements in technology and safety within the e-bike industry. At the core of the bike lies the brand’s advanced smart system, which integrates a range of safety features, including hub motor lock, emergency SOS, vibration detector, real-time GPS tracking and geofencing. Moreover, this smart system sets a new benchmark in anti-theft protection, significantly mitigating the risk of bike theft while enhancing the likelihood of successful recovery in the event of theft.

Weighing in at approximately 39 pounds, the UrbanCross is offered in two variants, the Ultra and the Pro, which are equipped with an 11-speed Shimano GRX and a CUES 400 9-speed groupset, respectively, while assistance is provided by a 250-W rear-hub motor that’s capable of providing up to 40 Nm (29.5 lb.ft) of torque and a top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h) via a torque sensor that responds to pedal input.

According to Vanpowers, the UrbanCross can travel up to 60 miles thanks to a 345.6-kWh downtube battery. The bike can also be optioned with a bottle cage-mounted extender battery, while stopping power comes courtesy of Shimano or Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 160-mm rotors.

Additionally, if visibility is a concern, the bike is fitted with both a dual-beam headlight, as well as a rear brake/tail light.

The UrbanCross is on display at CES Booth #56526 at the Venetian Expo, Level 2, Halls A-D, which will be available for pre-order later in 2024.
