Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) won the 7th and final stage of this year’s Volta a Catalunya today, marking the Spanish rider’s 3rd stage victory in this year’s race.
Valverde emerged victorious from a bunch sprint out of approximately 40 riders, to claim the stage.
As a result, he moved up into 2nd place of the final classification, behind race winner Ritchie Porte.
Meanwhile, Domenico Pozzovivo (Ag2r La Mondiale) rounded out the podium in 3rd place.
Winning the Volta a Catalunya, marks Porte’s second WorldTour victory this season, after winning the Paris-Nice classic this month as well.
