The challenge on two of the most iconic climbs of Alta Valtellina, in a traffic-free event, makes LaStelvioSantini one of the most anticipated events in the amateur cycling scene. In addition to the ascent to Passo dello Stelvio, from which the event takes its name, thousands of enthusiasts will also face another sacred monster of Italian cycling: the Mortirolo; both climbs have been key stages in the recent Giro d’Italia and continue to represent a cycling institution.
On Sunday, June 2 hundreds of cyclists representing 47 nations will line up in Bormio to compete on one of the three race courses (130, 108, and 64 kilometers), all finishing at 2,757 meters at the Passo dello Stelvio. The percentage of foreign cyclists at LaStelvioSantini increases year by year, and in this 2024 edition, 61 out of every 100 participants are from abroad, making it an opportunity to spend a few vacation days conquering the other iconic climbs of Alta Valtellina and exploring the event’s surroundings. After Italy, the country with the most athletes is Germany, followed by the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Outside of Europe, significant participation comes from Mexico, the United States, and Brazil.
New for the 2024 edition is the pair registration, which allows participants to start and finish with a friend, family member, or partner, embracing the spirit of sharing at LaStelvioSantini: upon bib number pickup, they will also find dedicated pins with the two S’s of the logo forming a heart.
To welcome participants and their companions, the organization offers an aperitif with traditional Valtellinese products on Saturday, June 1, at the Village, an initiative to showcase the rich gastronomic culture of the area hosting LaStelvioSantini. In the Pentagono area of Bormio, there will be an Expo Village with the Santini stand, where it will be possible to purchase LaStelvioSantini merchandise and the company’s current collections.
Additionally, participants and their companions can try their luck with a scratch card that offers various discounts on Santini x Polartec products. The race jersey, mandatory for all participants, is included in the race pack.
Registrations will remain open until May 30, 2024, on the website lastelviosantini.com.
