About this project
You’re riding alone, somewhere rural, or at night, and you fall off – how long before help arrives?
Enter Ridersmate – a compact, intelligent safety device that just might save your life!
Fitting easily onto any cycle, motorbike or saddle, Ridersmate constantly tracks your location, speed, heading and altitude, then texts your loved ones should you become separated from your ride – so they can send for help.
At the same time, Ridersmate records data about your journey, which you can easily save, store and share with other Ridersmate users.
Designed and developed by GPRS tracking pioneer, David Coleman, Ridersmate is designed to give you and your family the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’ll never be left alone, injured and stranded when out riding.
How it works
However careful and experienced a rider you are, there’s always the risk that you might fall off.
Most of the time, you’ll be left with nothing more than a few bumps and bruises, and a sore ego, but serious injuries do happen – and if you’re alone when they do, the consequences could be disastrous.
With Ridersmate, you don’t have to worry – and operating it couldn’t be easier:
1. Attach the unit to your rideThe Ridersmate unit attaches easily to your ride, with a detachable jack plug that tethers to your belt loop or clothing.
2. You fall off – Ridersmate takes overIf you fall off and become separated from your ride, the jack plug will detach itself from the Ridersmate unit, automatically sending out an emergency message to your chosen contacts.
3. False alarm!If you’re ok (apart from the bruised ego!), you can quickly and easily cancel the response – simply reattach the jack plug to the unit, which will send a second message to let your contacts know you’re ok.

Technology
Whilst the concept behind it might seem fairly simple, Ridersmate is packed with advanced GPS and GPRS technology that you simply won’t find anywhere else.
It works a little like your mobile phone, with a SIM card inside, and uses the GPRS data service to send SMS messages when activated.
So far, it might not sound all that advanced, and you may be wondering why it’s taken so long for a product like this to reach the market – but it all comes down to the challenges of using GPS.
The challenge
Ever noticed how using GPS or map functions on your smartphone drains the batteries really quickly?
That’s because for the GPS functionality on the smartphone to work out where it is, it needs to triangulate its position, and to do that, it needs to search for and get a reading from three different GPS satellites in the sky. This process takes up a lot of power!
We wanted Ridersmate to have enough battery life for a full day’s riding, whilst still being lightweight and portable enough to take with you wherever you go, so we had to come up with a unique solution.
The solution
Ridersmate is clever – it uses our unique location system, which has mapped out the positions and movements of all the world’s GPS satellites!
This advanced technology means that Ridersmate always knows exactly where it is, without having to waste power finding the satellites. This enabled us to make Ridersmate small and lightweight enough to fit easily onto any cycle, motorbike or saddle, whilst still providing 8+ hours of battery life.
Why we need your help
Ridersmate is completely finished and ready to go – and now we just need your help to bring it to market!
Over the past 4 years, we’ve invested a huge amount of time and resources into developing the technology behind the product, creating the hardware and software from scratch to bring Ridersmate to life.
Along the way, we’ve overcome countless challenges relating to battery life, durability, tracking and portability, to create a completely unique and innovative product that has the potential to make a huge difference to every rider’s safety.
The pre-production models have been rigorously tested, both in the lab and out in the field to ensure that Ridersmate performs perfectly in the real world – and it’s proving massively popular with the testers who’ve used it so far!
Ridersmate is starting to attract the attention of journalists from across the world of cycling, motorbiking and horse riding – so we’re confident it’s going to be a big hit.
We believe that crowd funding is a fantastic way for us to connect with future users of the product, helping us to gauge interest for Ridersmate, build a fan base and help to ensure this product makes a real impact.
Ridersmate is ready for launch, and all we need now is a final financial push to help us pay for the first batch of production units.
