Happy birthday to Cyrille Guimard was born on January 20, 1947.
The French rider is best known for winning the Points Jersey in the 1971 Vuelta a Espana. In addition, he finished 3rd in the 1971 World Championship Road Race behind Eddy Merckx of Belgium and Felice Gimondi of Italy, and 3rd again in the 1972 World Championship Road Race behind Marino Basso of Italy and Franco Bitossi of Italy.
Although injuries ended Guimard’s racing career early, he went on to become a successful and influential directour sportif with several prestigious teams – over seeing many top riders of the day like Bernard Hinault, Laurent Fignon and Greg LeMond.
