I am excited to announce that I am back in the bike building business and resurrecting Fat Chance Bicycles. Because the Yo Eddy continues to be a favorite of so many riders around the world, I have decided to begin with the Yo Eddy Team Fat Chance. The first round of Yo Eddy frames will be available directly from Fat Chance and only through the Fat Chance KickStarter campaign. Your support will help fund the first run of Yo Eddy frames and bring Fat Chance Bicycles back.
I am turning to you, the riders who love and appreciate Fat Chance Bicycles, to “crowd fund” this project and help me begin making frames again.
About this project
“On the worn-out East Coast, where everything has a history, the big book of mountain bikes starts with Chris Chance. Even as the first fat tires began roaming the Berkshires, Adirondacks and Appalachians, Fat Chances, as Chance’s bikes were dubbed, were our secret weapon. They went where no other bikes could go. They climbed hills no other bike could clean, and they snaked along trails with nary a tread misplaced.
In fact, when Chris built his first Fat Chance in the summer of 1982, there was, quite literally, nothing else like it. West Coast bikes from Tom Ritchey and Gary Fisher had ultra-long chainstays, shallow head angles and low bottom brackets. Even production bikes were weird: The first StumpJumper stays yawned about 19 inches over the horizon. But Fat Chances were different, with buzz-cut chainstays, upright angles, and high bottom brackets to clear the stumps, boulders and eruptions common to New Englands battered terrain. In other words those Fats already looked a lot like the bikes we ride today.”

Because the Yo Eddy continues to be a favorite of so many riders around the world, I have decided to begin with the Yo Eddy Team Fat Chance. The first round of Yo Eddy frames will be available directly from Fat Chance and only through this KickStarter campaign. Your support will help fund the first run of Yo Eddy frames and bring Fat Chance Bicycles back.
We asked you, the fans of Fat Chance Bicycles, to vote for the features you want on a new frame from us. We received thousands of responses and your input supports our suspicions. The vast majority of you asked for a steel frame with trail geometry and either 27.5” or 29” wheels. Our first release will be the Yo Eddy Team Fat Chance in two variations; the ‘I’m Back’ Signature Yo Eddy and the 2015 Yo Eddy. In addition to the quality and traits you expect from a Fat Chance, the new Yo Eddy’s will feature:
• Custom Drawn Steel tubes • Trail Geometry • 27.5” or 29” Wheels – Your Choice • Disc Brake Mounts • Tapered Head Tube • 12x142mm QR Axle Systems • Dropper Post Compatible Seat Tube
With the frame concept and design nailed down, we are gearing up and ready to begin production. With your Kickstarter pledges we’ll have the necessary funding to get the new Yo Eddy’s into production and back on the trails.
The two available frame options are the ‘I’m Back’ Signature Yo Eddy and the new 2015 Yo Eddy.
The ‘I’m Back’ Signature Yo Eddy frames will be limited to a production run of 100 frames. It will include a unique head badge, will be hand signed, feature a unique colorway and special decals. These frames will only be available through this KickStarter campaign and will never be reproduced again.
The 2015 Yo Eddy frames will be the first 150 frames of our 2015 production run. They will have all of the modern Yo Eddy features listed above, but will not have the ‘I’m Back’ Signature Yo Eddy special attributes. This batch of 150 frames will only be available through this KickStarter campaign and may be the only 2015 Yo Eddy frames released for 2015.
Fat Chance has always been a small company with an unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. Our frames were made by hand in the USA by people who love to ride. As Fat Chance Bicycles grows, I will continue to produce the highest quality and best built frames on the market.
The offers I have received from investors to bring Fat Chance bikes back to market quick and cheap are of no interest to me. That’s not what I’m here to do. My goal is to continue making great bikes and to find new ways we can enhance the experience of riding them.

Fat Chance Yo Eddy Frame – "I’m Back" Signature Yo Eddy
These frames will be limited to a production run of 100 frames, will be hand signed by Chris, feature an exclusive one-time colorway, a unique head badge and dedicated decals. The “I’m Back” Signature Yo Eddy frames will only be available through this KickStarter campaign and will never be reproduced again. The first 10 serial numbers will be issued on a first come, first served basis. KickStarter Exclusive.
Fat Chance Yo Eddy Frame – 2015 Production
These frames will be the first 150 frames of our 2015 run of Yo Eddy frames. They will feature all the great updates to the frame but do not include, the unique head badge, Chris’ signature and dedicated decals. These frames will be awesome, just without the extras of the “I’m Back” Signature frames.
Fat Family Fat Family members receive special access to limited edition products, factory direct "pro-form" pricing, and VIP invitations to Fat Family events.
Fat Chance Relaunch Party This event will be a hosted by Chris Chance in Northern California in the summer of 2015. The event is to honor our supporters and give us all a chance to ride together, share stories and have fun. If you choose, you can have your frame hand delivered at the event. Location and date to be determined.
