Happy birthday to Maurizio Fondriest who was born on January 16, 1965.
The Italian rider is best known for winning the World Championships Road Race in 1988 in front of Martial Gayant of France and Juan Fernandez of Spain.
Fondriest was also 5th in the 1993 World Championship Road Race behind Lance Armstrong of the USA, Miguel Indurain of Spain, Olaf Ludwig of Germany, and Johan Museeuw of Belgium.
In addition, he won the Milan-San Remo Classic in 1993, the Championship of Zurich in 1993 and the Fleche Wallone Classic in 1993.
