Ampera Desk Bike Can Power Your Gadgets While You Spin

LifeSpan has decided to go off the grid with the launch of its Ampera desk bike, offering users the ability to power their gadgets while they spin at home or work.

The Ampera uses kinetic energy from its pedals to charge a phone on its wireless charging pad, or a laptop over a charging cable connected to its USB-C port. Also, the adjustable seat allows it to easily fit under any standing desk, while its lightweight cordless construction enbales it to be moved from place to place, blending into modern surroundings with a soft, round silhouette.

A prototype of the Ampera first appeared at NeoCon, the annual Chicago event showcasing workspaces of the future, where it won the “Health & Wellness: Furniture” category of Interior Design’s annual HiP Awards, recognizing the top products and people in commercial design. However, LifeSpan unveiled its final design on November 1, 2023, offering it to the public for $999.99.

“The Ampera arrives at a time when companies are searching for new ways to entice employees into the office, when remote workers are considering healthier ways to spend their days and when entrepreneurs are looking to reclaim their time from the gym,” says LifeSpan.

“As hybrid work becomes the norm, most professionals still find themselves at a desk with little to no physical activity throughout the day,” adds LifeSpan CEO Jackie Wu. “The LifeSpan Ampera Bike allows workers to accomplish the same tasks moving as they did sitting still, while enjoying the physical and mental benefits of staying active.”

Beyond operating independently from any corded power source, the Ampera is made of fully recyclable HIPS (high-impact polystyrene), which uses less energy to produce and doesn’t release toxins when recycled. Moreover, 30% of its components, including the packaging material, are made from recycled materials. LifeSpan is also partnering with Greenspark to plant a tree for every $300 spent on its website.

Coinciding with the Ampera launch, LifeSpan is releasing a new app to manage all of the brand’s devices. The LifeSpan Fit app connects with all LifeSpan products using Bluetooth, tracks users’ fitness data and synchronizes with Apple Health and Google Fit. Special app features for the Ampera Bike include adjusting pedal resistance, displaying energy produced, adjusting LED mood lighting on the base and tracking calories and distance. The app is now available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

LifeSpan showcased the Ampera during this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, allowing consumers to demo the desk bike alongside its full Workplace line, including the newest generation of treadmill desks.

LifeSpan has also dropped the price to $799.99.
