Appleman is debuting its latest 2XR crankset, a modular, direct-mount set-up that integrates the chainring(s) and spider, offering numerous configurations to satisfy roadies, gravelers and mtb’rs alike.
Designed in partnership with AArN, the chainrings themselves feature a unique tooth profile for maximum engagement and minimal wear that are compatible with 9-13 speed chains, offering ease of serviceability courtesy of a no-bolt system, while the US-made aluminum 2XR spiders are compatible with any Appleman spindle, allowing for a wide range of gearing choices that span 1x and 2x drivetrains that can be adjusted and swapped via a 5mm Allen wrench.
“The 2XR Crankset name comes from “two times radius”. Frustrated by cranks that didn’t fit people or bikes well, we designed these with a rider-first approach. Versatile and modular, these cranks offer up new fit options for a wide array of people and a full fleet of bikes,” says framebuilder Matt Appleman.
“Cranks arms make the legs go round. Available in 100mm, 135mm, 145mm, 155mm, 160mm, 165mm, 170mm, 175mm crank lengths with 10mm increments. Why 10mm increments? Because it makes a difference. The body can perceive as little as 1mm in difference in crank length, but 10mm actually changes the angles of the knee and hip a useful amount. Strong and stiff, the pocketing in the insides of the crank arm reduces weight while minimizing stress risers and maximizing fatigue life,” adds Appleman.
The Appleman 2XR Spider starts at $125.00, while the 2XR Direct Mount Chainring fetches $185.00 and up.
