Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) lived up to his status as the overwhelming favorite to win this year’s Baloise Tour of Belgium, after claiming the 4th and final stage – to secure the overall race title.
After his BMC team had blown the race to pieces, Van Avermaet launched a powerful attack during the final kilometer, which proved to be enough to open up a slight advantage to narrowly hold off a fast-finishing Tiesj Benoot (Lotto Soudal), who was second in both the stage and the overall.
