Happy birthday to Cleto Maule, who was born on this day in 1931, and died on July 28, 2013.
The Italian rider is best remembered for winning the 1955 Giro di Lombardia, ahead of a Belgian Fred De Bruyne and fellow Italian Angelo Conterno.
While the 49th edition of the Giro di Lombardia was Maule’s only significant victory during his seven year career, he nevertheless proved to be a vital asset to the teams he raced for during that period; most notably Torpado, Carpano, Philco and Vov.
