DT Swiss is defying gravity with the launch of its latest ARC 1100 Spline 38 CS wheelset, the first set of hoops from the German brand to utilize carbon fiber spokes, tipping the scales at a feathery 1,174 grams.
Dubbed the VONOA, the spokes feature an aerodynamic shape that DT Swiss says is both lighter and stiffer than even their most advanced stainless steel spokes, bringing the weight of the ARC 1100 Spline 38 CS down a full 100 grams over the ARC 1100 DICUT.
“Spokes have been at the heart of DT Swiss since day 1. The first wheel of our portfolio being laced on carbon blades is a pretty big milestone. It can count on the same meticulous hand assembly of our wheel builders, while bringing weight savings and enhanced stiffness. The 38 mm high rim is manufactured in-house, thanks to our PURE carbon technology. This enables us to reduce the weight, helping you to achieve a faster ascent time. The aero-optimized profile will propel you forward on comfortable low-gradient climbs,” says DT Swiss.
Elsewhere, the ARC 1100 Spline 38 CS wheelset spins on DT Swiss’ premium 180 hubs laced with 18 spokes up front and 24 in the rear.
Additionally, to further optimize performance, DT Swiss has paired the new ARC 1100 Spline 38 CS with its ready-to-climb Wheel Tire System, consisting of a 26mm Continental Aero 111 tire up front and a 28mm Continental GP 5000 S TR in the rear.
“Providing you with the fastest climbing wheel tire system, the wheels will be mounted with our WTS Technology: the AERO 111 26 mm in the front and Continental GP 5000 STR 28 mm in the back. Providing an optimal combination of Speed and Grip, for fast ascents as well as descents in confidence,” says DT Swiss.
The ARC 1100 Spline 38 CS wheelset sell for a hefty $3727, which comes with both a Shimano and SRAM freehub, while a Campagnolo N3W is available separately.
