Bikepackers are rejoicing now that DT Swiss has announced the launch of its new 350 SP PL-7 dynamo hub, the brand’s first dynamo hub in 25 years.
“Rolling through the golden hour of a summer night, you feel as free as the wind. The sun dips below the horizon, but the magic of the day lingers, drawing you to explore further. Without a thought, your bike light flickers on, bringing new paths to light as you discover places you’ve never been before. How? Your new wheels are equipped with a dynamo hub that smoothly converts the energy of your pedal strokes into electric light. This self-sufficient system ensures that your adventures are limited only by your imagination,” says DT Swiss.
Developed in partnership with Shutter Precision, the hub features DT Swiss’ 350 hub mated to the latter’s dynamo internals, producing a reliable 6-volt, 3-watt power output that claims to deliver 72% efficiency while pedaling at just 15kph.
DT Swiss also points out, “with the lights or power consumption off, the increase in resistance caused by the front dynamo hub is minimal and remains below 1 watt (W) up to a speed of 30 km/h. This slight increase is barely noticeable while bikepacking.”
DT Swiss is offering the 350 SP PL-7 alongside its GR 1600 Spline DYN and G 1800 Spline DYN wheelsets, or the hub can be purchased separately for $236.90.
