Scribe is claiming its new Ultra Core has the fastest aerodynamic signature of any UCI-approved wheelset.
How?
According to the Irish brand, despite relying on Alpina steel aero spokes and weighing a bit heavier than its carbon-spoked counterpart, the Ultra Élan, wind tunnel testing revealed that the heavier steel spokes mated to a 65mm profile rim actually cheated the wind better, resulting in a gain of 0.5 watts at 0° yaw, 0.5 watts at 5° yaw, 0.4 watts at 10° and 0.2 at 15°, each at 45 mm/h while shod with a 28mm Continental GP5000 tire.
“The CORE Ultra 6 was developed to be the fastest UCI compliant 65mm wheelset on the planet. The CORE Ultra 6 will give you a noticeable speed advantage when the power goes on! Designed and hand-built at our operations center, the CORE Ultra utilizes T1100 carbon fiber from South Korea, Taiwanese ceramic bearings and carbon spokes from Italy. The CORE Ultra is our performance wheel range which is proven to be amongst the fastest wheels in the World from Silverstone wind-tunnel data,” says Scribe.
Elsewhere, the Ultra Core features a hooked 24mm internal and 30mm external rim that spins on Scribe’s new Ultra hubs with ceramic TPI Grade 3 bearings and a 36-tooth ratchet freehub, tipping the scales at an impressive 1,338 grams in its lightest guise.
The Ultra Core wheeslet is available in both 50mm and 65mm profiles that sell for $1,999.00, which comes with a life-time warranty and a crash replacement program from Scribe.
