Jure Kocjan emerged victorious ahead of Robin Carpenter (Hincapie Racing Team) in a photo-finish in stage 2 of this year’s Tour of Utah in downtown Ogden today.
The 30-year-old Slovenian Team SmartStop rider, known for his excellent sprinting capabilities, proved it during the final mile of today’s 100-mile stage, as he out-paced the head of peloton during the final three circuit laps.
Indeed, with the finish line in sight, Kocjan accelerated his way through a pack of six riders, before holding off Carpenter and third-place Brent Bookwalter (BMC Racing Team).
Meanwhile, opening stage winner, Kiel Reijnen (UnitedHealthCare Pro Cycling), just missed out on a podium finish in 4th place. But, he still managed to hold onto the overall race lead – heading into tomorrow’s stage 3.
