Eddie Dunbar (Jayco AlUla) took another impressive victory in this year’s Vuelta a España, after the Irish rider won today’s stage 20, launching out of the group of GC favorites with 5km to go to the summit to claim a solo win.

Dunbar reeled in lone attacker Pavel Sivakov (UAE Team Emirates) along the upper slopes, quickly dispatching his Russian rival and opening up a 10-second gap that held until the finish.

Meanwhile, race leader Primož Roglič (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) managed third on the day to keep his overall lead from Ben O’Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale).

Earlier,  Kasper Asgreen (T-Rex Quick-Step) was the first attacker of the day, with a group of 10 riders containing Marc Soler, Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates), Clément Berthet (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), Marco Frigo (Israel Premier Tech), Sylvain Moniquet (Lotto Dstny), Carlos Canal (Movistar) Jack Haig (Bahrain Victorious), Thomas Champion (Cofidis), Harold Tejada and Pablo Castrillo (Kern Pharma) later joining him on the first climb of the day.

Vine was the first to crest the climb and take the lead in the provisional KOM standings. But, Soler later attacked on the climbs of the Portillo de Lunada and the Portillo de la Sia with Soler slightly edging out his teammates in the KOM competition.

In the meantime, Ineos Grenadiers and T-Rex Quick-Step upped the ante in the peloton, ultimately reining in the breakaway on the Puerto de los Tornos.

With just over 5km remaining to the summit, Sivakov attacked, quickly opening up an advantage of around 20 seconds.

However, Dunbar soon bridged his way to Sivakov, distancing him with 2.5km to go, while Roglič, David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ), Enric Mas (Movistar) and Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) tried to hunt him down in earnest.
