Wilier has gone full aero with its new Rave SLR ID2 gravel bike, cheating the wind by a claimed 8.9% in air reduction over the previous model, equating to a 5.3-watt savings at 35kph.
“This completely new, fast, versatile and fun bike draws inspiration from the previous model, but is designed with pure off-road racing in mind. It is an aesthetic manifesto, a tribute to the raw, rebellious energy of underground culture and to the timeless aesthetics of the 1980s and ’90s: acid colours that beat to the rhythm of a rave party, feisty lines that conjure up a sense of pure speed, and a design that defies convention,” says Wilier.
What makes the new Rave SLR ID2 so slippery?
The frame features full NACA tube profiles throughout, along with a new fork that draws its inspiration from Wilier’s Supersonica SLR time trial bike, as well as a revised carbon lay-up process that yields both lighter weight and increased stiffness.
Clearance is also up on the new Rave, boasting enough room to accommodate tires up to a hefty 52mm and cassettes up to 52t, while a UDH rear dropout brings it in line with modern MTB standards.
However, the new gravel grinder is now only compatible with 1x drivetrains.
Wilier also tweaked the geometry on the new Rave, featuring a more compact wheelbase and a shorter rear triangle across all six sizes that’s designed to deliver “rapid acceleration and confident, precise handling” says Wilier.
The new Rave SLR ID2 is offered with a choice of two cockpit configurations, Wilier’s integrated F Bar or the Stemma S2, in a wide range of build options priced from €4,400 to €9,900.
Also, in addition to Pixel Green, Wilier has introduced three other new striking colorways, Glitch Black, Neon Purple and Byte Cream.
