Over the years, we’ve come across saddles culled from virtually every material and fabric imaginable, to include composites, but wood is a first for us.
Selle Esse displayed its wooden saddle during last week’s Eurobike Show, that comprises a CNC cut wood shell that’s bonded to a nylon under-pad, along with a choice of either stainless steel or carbon rails.
According to Selle Esse, the ergonomic shell has been designed to provide every day comfort and durability, albeit with some heft though.
Indeed, despite being classified as a “race” saddle, it weighs in at a hefty 330g, which seems more artisan inspired than focussed on performance to us.
In fact, we see it as the perfect addition to a retro road bike or a city cruiser seeking a nostalgic look, than we do at the starting line.
In any case, the saddle measures 135mm wide and 275mm long, and it sells for EUR 199,00.
