Brooklyn Masseur Makes House Calls by Bike

This biking masseur knows a thing or two about sore muscles. Kip Yates pedals New York City’s streets to visit clients with his massage table in tow. (No, this guy wasn’t seen outside of John Travolta’s NYC condo 😛 )

"Biking gets me to my clients faster because I never have to worry about traffic," he said. "Plus, it reduces my carbon footprint and also reduces my rates."

Yates, 43, lugs a 30-pound trailer packed with a massage table, linens and lotions to each of his home appointments, offering his clients a relaxing massage in the comfort of their own home.

His bicycle rig also serves as a moving advertisement for his business, Massage Refresh.

And word is catching on. After less than a year in business, he sees upwards of 20 clients a week.

The father of three was a corporate tax software developer until he was laid off in 2009. He said the layoff gave him breathing room to pursue his dream of being a massage therapist.

After training at the Swedish Institute, Yates began work at the Physio Fitness, located in SoHo, and launched his own business last year.
