Closca Launches Folding Bicycle Helmet

Following their successful Kickstarter campaign from about a year ago, Closca announced the launch of it’s new folding bicycle helmet. 

According to Closca, the new folding helmet reduces in height by more than 50 percent when not in use.

Made from Arpro – a material developed by the Biomechanics Institute of Valencia – it  replaces the typical styrene material used in most helmets.  Furthermore, Arpro is said to have greater elasticity and shock absorption at lower speeds, and also eliminates the need for a traditional rigid shell, making it the ideal material for a space-saving helmet for urban cyclists.


Helmets can be purchased directly from Closca’s website, with a wide selection of different patterns and materials to choose from, to include checkered, denim, wool and animal print designs. Additional covers are also available.


Foldable system

Its folding system that complies with main standards: Europe – EN 1078 & US – CPSC, reduces the initial height of the helmet more than 50% becoming flat with just one movement. This volume optimization makes CLOSCA™ the most efficient foldable system and solves the need to store the helmet when it is not being used. As simple and comfortable as that.

Our aim is to allow the urban cyclist to forget about the helmet when it is not being used. So we create a foldable and very light helmet  with a flat shape to store it easily in any bag or backpack.

Multi impact & lightness

CLOSCA™ is a multi-impact helmet. The structure is made of expanded polypropylene (EPP) high density, with extraordinary properties of impact absorption and also elasticity. EPP absorbs the energy of the blow, retaining it in its molecular structure and dissipating plastic deformation, thereby preventing it from reaching the wearer’s head. If this energy doen not reach the elastic limit of the EPP, the helmet recover its shape and it is not necessary to change the helmet with a new one, as it happened with a normal helmet.

Furthermore, the innovative application of this material (EPP) makes CLOSCA™ one of the lightest helmets on the market.

Ergonomic System

As a result of rigorous anthropometric studies conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Biomechanics of Valencia (IBV), CLOSCA™ helmets feature a full range of sizes (XS, S, M and L) designed to suit all users. Closca Insights

Our telescopic design consits in 3 different parts of special EPP foam joined together with a cross strap sytem; These parts ‘work as a team’ in a crash. It means that one part can push against the others allowing a better shock absorption. All tests have been performed at Applus+ Idiada, one of the world’s leading companies in Testing, Inspection & Certification.
