David Millar's Vuelta a Espana Charity Shoes

David Millar’s final season as a pro is being celebrated by unique shoes designed for charity – and for the season’s final Grand Tour, the bar has been well and truly raised!

The British rider and Fi’zi:k, have teamed up with a number of designers for a season-long celebration of David’s last year as a pro.

The latest installment in their cause, are Millar’s Vuelta a Espana shoes.

Overview

Races don’t come much more high-profile than the Vuelta, and so the shoes you’ll see David racing in from late August into September will be extra special, with a particular model dedicated to Team Garmin-Sharp’s charity partner, WWF (formerly World Wildlife Fund).

David will be riding in his favorite fi’zi:k R1 model shoes for the 2014 Vuelta. We can’t tell you just yet exactly how many new pairs of shoes you’ll see in the 3,181.5km race, but it will be more than one pair.

Amongst these, a very special pair have been designed with, and in support of, WWF. These are the only shoes from the whole project that won’t be auctioned for the Small Steps Project charity. Team Garmin-Sharp and WWF have been working together all season, and this is a fitting way to honour the relationship.

“WWF are proud to be associated with this beautiful and creative celebration of David’s last year in professional bike racing, and hope that the shoes bring him luck during his journey to Madrid,” says Adrian Cockle, WWF International.

“Their auction will raise valuable funds to help our work conserving the world’s natural habitats for future generations.”

“WWF is a charity that’s close to my heart so I’m glad to be able to help them with the publicity that only an event like the Vuelta and the other Grand Tours can generate. The work that they do is so incredibly important that I’m delighted that we can help in some way.”

The auctions for the WWF Vuelta shoes will be the latest in the Eloquence of Movement series at http://www.sellebrity.org.uk/celebrity/david-millar.

The shoes donated so far this season have achieved an amazing figure of more than €6,000 for the charity Small Steps Project – and with the WWF shoes, the total is expected to grow dramatically following the Vuelta.

You can be in with a chance of owning these very special WWF shoes: like all fi’zi:k shoes, they are hand-made in Italy, and by the way, David’s size is 44.5.

“It’s been a special challenge working on this project, and incorporating such many races in the unique designs of the Eloquence of Movement project at the same time. Furthermore we worked on really tight deadline to be able to match the craziness of the WorldTour timing,” says Nicolò Ildos, fi’zi:k.

“Of course we are happy to do this because both the rider and the project celebrating his last season are so special.”
