Happy birthday to Lucien Vlaemynck, who was born on this day in 1914, and died on June 14, 1994.
The Belgian rider is best remembered for finishing 3rd in the 1939 Tour de France behind Sylvere Maes of Belgium and Rene Vietto of France.
Vlaemynck was also 3rd in the 1946 Paris-Roubaix Classic behind Georges Claes of Belgium and Louis Gauthier of France.
In addition, he won 1937 Criterium du Midi and the 1938 Tour de Luxembourg, as well as several other lesser known races throughout the 1930’s and 40’s.
