Organizers for the Giro d’Italia announced in a press release today, that they have appointed Paolo Bellino as the company’s new general manager.
Bellino takes over after the dismal of Michele Acquarone, following an investigation into alleged misappropriation of more than $13 million in unaccounted funds.
The 43-year old Bellino currently serves as general secretary of the Italian Track and Field Federation. He has been operations consultant for the International Olympic Committee since 2010 and worked on the organizing committees of both the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and the 2013 World Master Games.
Bellino’s appointment will take effect on January 13, 2014.
Meanwhile, Mauro Vegni will remain as the Giro’s technical director.
Bellino’s appointment is the third major change in the RCS Sport since the news of the alleged misappropriation was first learned back in September. Raimondo Zanaboni has sinced replaced Flavio Biondi as chairman, while Riccardo Taranto has been appointed as CEO.

Milan, 19 december 2013 – RCS MediaGroup today announces that Paolo Bellino has been appointed
General Manager of RCS Sport to reinforce the senior management team. RCS Sport is an RCS MediaGroup company that specializes in sport business and organising national and international sport events such as the Giro d’Italia, the approaching Dubai Tour, Milan-Sanremo and Milan Marathon. RCS Sport is also an advisor of FIGC, various sports federations, leagues and teams. Starting on 13th January 2014, Bellino will take up the role of General Manager, working alongside RCS Sport Chairman Raimondo Zanaboni and CEO Riccardo Taranto, with the goal of reinforcing company activities and further increasing its international development.
Bellino, 43 from Turin, has a degree in International Political Sciences, forged a career at the top level of track and field’s 400 metres, and has a vast experience in managing international sport events. He is joining RCS Sport from the role of General Secretary in Italian Track and Field Federation, before which he was previously the Operations Director of the Organizing World Master Games, Turin 2013. Since 2010, Bellino has been Operations Consultant for the International Olympic Committee, and held several different roles in the Organising Committee of the XX Winter Olympic Games, Turin 2006, including Chief Operating Officer, Managing Director of the Main Operation Centre (MOC), Athletes Committee Coordinator and Steering Committee Coordinator.
