BMC has revamped its URS gravel bike, giving gravelers the option of a front suspension, an electric motor and a more MTB-inspired geometry with enough clearance for 47mm tires.
In the case of suspension, the URS can come equipped with BMC’s MicroTravel Technology (MTT) stem, incorporating Redshift ShockStop suspension technology, along with the Swiss brand’s MTT suspension fork that was developed in partnership with HiRide, delivering 20mm of travel via an internal spring, while power assistance comes courtesy of a 300Wh TQ HPR50 motor with an integrated battery.
Regarding geometry, the URS features BMC’s “Gravel Fit”, borrowing from its mountain bike configuration, which comprises a longer reach, a slacker 69.5 degree head angle and a shorter stem, resulting in improved stability at high speeds and steep terrain. In addition, the frame’s trail has also been lengthened, as well as the rear-center and front-center measurements by 5mm and 3mm, respectively, for added stability.
Additionally, like BMC’s Roadmachine X endurance road bike, the new URS features down tube storage, with a proprietary storage bag, along with SRAM’s UDH dropout standard, offering improved shifting that’s also compatible with the company’s latest “full mount” drivetrains.
Elsewhere, the URS’s fork sports a routing port for a dynamo hub, while the seat tube has provisions for three bottle cages, or the option to fit a three-boss cage for larger items. The bike is also fitted with a D-shape seatpost, using the same clamp as the BMC Twostroke mountain bike, making it compatible with 27.2mm diameter dropper posts via a shim.
Lastly, while the previous generation URS featured the MTT stay design, this latest version has been refined, wherein the compression cylinders inside the frame have been oriented more horizontally to better support the frame’s natural flexion direction.
The design also incorporates variable dampers, with sizes extra small, small and medium coming with the softest damper, while large and extra-large bikes feature a medium-density insert. Also, the bike now incorporates a cargo strap on the interior face of the main triangle.
The URS is offered in four variants the URS Two and Three, the URS 01 and the URS 01 LT, which are available in a number of different guises.
Here’s how the models breakdown:
