Canyon Enters the Helmet Segment with New CFR Models

Canyon has entered the helmet segment with two new CFR models that were developed in partnership with the aerodynamic specialists at Swiss Side.

Dubbed the Disruptr CFR and Stingr CFR, the new lids feature a HighBar retention system, which forgoes traditional straps and a buckle in favor of flexible plastic arms paired with a rotary dial closure system, resulting in what Canyon says “eliminates century-old straps and buckles”.

However, fitment isn’t the only accolade of the new CFRs, as the helmets focus on aerodynamics as well, claiming to cheat the wind by 7 watts (at 50 KPH) compared to a conventional strap design, while higher speeds of 60 to 70 KPH are said to shave upwards of 10 to 20 watts – a savings of 33 seconds over 100km.

Additionally, Canyon points out that the Highbar system is also quieter, taking wind noise out of the equation thanks to the elimination of traditional straps, while wind tunnel and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) testing shows a reduction in surface temperature of 4.8ºC (40.6ºF) coursey of ample venting.

“Our first helmets are pushing the limits of performance and have already proven themselves at the highest levels of racing with our athletes. Canyon has a reputation for challenging the status quo, and these helmets introduce a new era for helmet performance and protection. Faster, more relaxed, and ready for the world of bike racing in all its forms,” boasts Canyon’s Global Director of Gear Satn Mavis.

The Disruptr CFR is aimed at both on-road and off-road exploits, as well as commuting, with the option of an attachable rear light that offers five modes and up to 30 hours of run time.

In the case of the Stingr CFR, it’s a race-ready aero helmet that’s focused mainly on competition.

Both helmets sell for $330, which feature interior Mips Air Node crash protection.
