Canyon has finally lifted the curtains on its much-anticipated new Aeroad, touting it as “the faster bike in the pro peloton” thanks to revised tube shapes and profiles, as well as a broader fork, giving the bike an improved aerodynamic signature over its predecessor.
Another crucial update includes the new PACE (Performance Adaptive Cockpit Ecosystem) one-piece cockpit that offers lots of adjustability such as 50mm of width adjustment and 20mm height adjustment, along with a “Gear Groove” for attaching accessories or even aero bars.
Additionally, the adaptive nature of the handlebar also means riders can swap out different drops without the need to cut brake hoses or bleed them. Plus, Canyon was keen to utilize Torx 25 bolts throughout for improved torque and fewer chances of stripping out hardware due to overtightening. Also, the top-tier model even gets premium titanium screws for enhanced corrosion resistance.
Elsewhere, the Aeroad sees a new seatpost design that features integrated slots to accommodate a race number or a light, while the saddle clamp has been updated for easier adjustments.
However, all of these improvements come with a slight weight penalty of 45 grams, bringing the weight of the frame up to 960 grams. But, weight notwithstanding, Canyon is quick to point out that wind-tunnel testing shows that the Aeroad CFR outperformed its closest competitors such as the Cervélo S5 by a margin of 2.5 watts at 45 km/h with DT Swiss ARC1100 50mm wheels, Schwalbe Pro One TLE 25F/28R tires.
The new Aeroad is offered in six guises across the CFR and CF SLX variants, with each model featuring full cable integration, integrated power meters and exclusively electronic groupsets.
