While most of today’s so-called wheel experts were still in diapers, Corima was fast at work developing the magical cloth we call carbon fiber into some of the most sophisticated wheelsets to date.

But, it hasn’t been until recent years that the vaunted French brand has decided to take the road less traveled, with the Essentia 40 marking their latest wheelset to blur the lines between road and gravel.
“The Essentia 40 is the ultimate all-road wheel. Destined to erase the borders between road and gravel, the hookless rim is designed to maximize comfort and control with wider tubeless tires and lower pressures. Tipping the scales at an impressive 1600 grams, as its name implies, the Essentia 40 features a 40mm hookless rim with an internal width of 23mm and an external width of 28mm, which can accommodate tires ranging from 28mm to 50mm.
Like all Corima wheels, the Essentia 40 comprises the brand’s 3K carbon, foam-core technology and a new ratchet system that offers 36 teeth and a 10 degree angle of engagement.
Positioned below Corima’s G30.5 gravel-specific wheelset, the Essentia 40 sells for $1590, which comes complete with rim tape, valves and valve nut tool.
