CycloWatt Power Meter Promises Accurate Measurement and 3-Bolt Compatibility at a Low Price

CycloWatt is promising accurate power measurement, as well as compatibility with both Shimano and LOOK pedal systems, at a very low price point – that’s if its crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter gets off the ground.

“CycloWatt offers accurate, real-world power data that installs in seconds, moves easily between bikes and fits naturally into your existing riding setup. Whether you train indoors or outdoors, CycloWatt gives you objective insight into your performance so you can ride smarter, pace better, and improve consistently”, says the Swiss brand.

According to CycloWatts’ co-founder, Levi Luder, the system utilizes a simple three-bolt cleat. However, unlike other pedal-based systems, the power meter itself can be easily removed from the cleat, making replacement a cinch.

How accurate is the power meter?

CycloWatt says its single-sided system has an accuracy of +/-3%, a bit less than the competition. However, the engineers are keen to point out, that unlike other systems, its design is not affected by dirt, mud, or temperature changes, relying on Bluetooth or ANT+ protocols to transmit data to virtually any cycling computer or smartphone without the need for a special app.

Additionally, CycloWatt works seamlessly with training platforms such as Zwift, Wahoo and Garmin, while charging is performed via a magnetic connector, with a battery life that’s said to be good for 48 hours of riding.

As mentioned, CycloWatt is currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign, offering early-backers a special price of CHF 179 (approximately $229.50).
