While the Endura name might seem new to many cyclists, the Scottish brand has been making high end cycling togs for nigh on to 30 years, working alongside a number of prominent teams over the decades to develop cutting-edge fabrics aimed at bolstering comfort and performance.
The SL Pro marks Endura’s most sophisticated bibshort to date, which features a lumbar support panel that’s designed to wrap around the cyclist’s lower back and sides for optimal support, while also taking pressure off the straps. Moreover, the bibshorts are also treated with Coldblack, a fabric that dramatically reduces heat build-up and provides excellent UPF50 protection.
However, the SL Pro’s signature feature is its 700 series pad that was designed and tested in collaboration with bike fit experts gebioMized, as well as feedback from professional riders.
Available in 3 widths, the pad offers a semi-custom fit to match the rider’s pelvic shape, saddle and riding position, while Endura’s high tech Continuously Variable Profile technology provides supportive padding only where required, with all superfluous material removed to minimize bunching and friction and maximize moisture transfer and flexibility.
The bibshorts also feature high stretch, fast wicking polyamide / Lycra face fabric and multi-density open cell foam that rely on flame lamination bonding to provide outstanding stretch and moisture transfer, as well as a 3D front mesh zone for enhanced air circulation.
Additionally, the Pro SL bibshorts are offered in two leg lengths, Standard and Long. The long leg length option is 4cm’s longer than the standard and caters for those who prefer a little more coverage.
“The most comfortable bibshorts we have ever made. That’s the feedback that we have received from everyone who has ridden them so far. We started from scratch when re-designing our iconic, top end bibshort. Our unique, multi fabric construction has been engineered to be supportive and compressive where you need it, while allowing for unrestricted movement. An impressive, pre-shaped panel design delivers a true on bike specific fit that’s immediately apparent when you put them on,” says Endura.
Enthusiasts can debate ad infinitum about what they think are the game-changing components and equipment that have punctuated the bicycle over the decades, but for me advancements in cycling apparel rank equally important. And, the SL Pro bibshort is a clear case for my argument.
Indeed, fancy equipment notwithstanding, the $195.00 SL Pro proved to be one of the most comfortable bibshorts that I’ve ever had the pleasure of riding in, increasing my stamina and ability to ride longer and faster than any bike alone could.
