Kasper Asgreen (EF Education-EasyPost) claimed a solo victory in stage 14 of the Giro d’Italia today, after the Danish rider held on after jettisoning the breakaway group with under 7km to go, seizing the day’s honors with a 16-second gap over his closet rivals Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease A Bike) who led home the rest of the 16-rider group.

Earlier, as the race visited the Italy-Slovenia cross-border city of Gorizia-Nova Gorica, the peloton was plagued with a multi-rider crash with 23km remaining, ensnaring GC contenders Primož Roglič (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers), Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious), and Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), losing major time at the end of the 195km stage.

However, Isaac Del Toro ((UAE Team Emirates) managed to avoid the chaos to increase his lead at the head of the general classification.
