Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) sprinted to victory in stage 6 of the Giro d’Italia, beating his closest rivals Milan Fretin (Cofidis) and Paul Magnier(Soudal-QuickStep) by a considerable margin following a chaotic sprint in Naples.
The frantic finale saw the peloton reel in the day’s only breakaway duo of Taco van der Hoorn (Intermarché-Wanty) and Enzo Paleni (Groupama-FDJ) with 2.5km to go, while a late attack from Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) briefly upset the order of things. But, the Belgian rider was swept up, while his teammate Olav Kooij finished just outside of the top five.
Meanwhile, three-time stage winner Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) and current wearer of the maglia rosa finished safety in the main peloton to retain his grip on the overall race lead.
Earlier, the race was neutralized after a massive crash with 70km to go, giving all riders the same time regardless of gaps, with no bonus seconds or sprint points awarded.
As a result, Pedersen was able to hold onto the pink jersey for another day.
