Hunt Launches “World’s Fastest Aluminum Disc Brake Wheelset”

Fast on the heels of its 48 Limitless Aero Disc carbon wheel, Hunt has launched its new 34 Aero Wide Disc which they claim is the world’s fastest aluminum disc brake wheelset.

“All of the learnings and knowledge from our 48 Limitless project have been brought into an alloy disc-brake road wheelset, developed and tested by aerodynamicist and Hunt Engineering Product Manager Luisa Grappone (MSc Aerospace Engineering),” says Hunt.

“The new Hunt 34 Aero Wide Disc (using the Mavic Wind Averaged Drag calculation with a 25mm Schwalbe Pro One tire), outperforms the world-leading alloy aero disc brake wheels.”

“The broad shape and large radius spoke bed profile developed by Luisa for the Limitless project allows excellent transfer of airflow from tire to the rim and then around the spoke bed to ensure low aerodynamic drag at a wide range of yaw angles.”

Additionally, Hunt claims its new 34 Aero Wide Disc wheelset is more aerodynamically efficient than Zipp’s carbon 202 NSW wheel when fitted with Schwalbe Pro One 28mm tires, although the British brand doesn’t mention how the wheels compare when mounted with 25mm tires.

The 34 Aero Wide Disc comprise Hunt’s Sprint hubs (with a 7.5° engagement on the freehub) and Elliptical Pillar PSR Wing spokes, which they say are compatible with all current axle sizes.

As its name implies, the 34 Aero Wide Disc features a rim that’s 34mm deep, along with a width that’s 26mm wide, making to the widest profile ever developed for an aluminum wheel. Moreover, thanks to the use of T-6 6069 alloy, Hunt says it was able to keep the weight down to a respectable 1,548g for the set.
