Happy birthday to Joseph Planckaert, who was born on this day in 1934, and died on May 22, 2007.
The Belgian rider is best remembered for finishing 2nd in the 1962 Tour de France behind Jacques Anquetil of France, along with winning the Liege-Bastogne-Liege Classic in 1962.
In addition, Planckaert won the prestigious Omloop Het Volk race in 1958 and the Tour of Luxembourg and the Belgian national championships both in 1962.
Planckaert also won numerous other lesser known races throughout Europe during his era.
